InterDesign hires Scott Black as VP of Marketing and Business Development

InterDesign Black

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – InterDesign, a local architectural design and planning services firm, announces that it has completed the first phase of an internal realignment strategy designed to support new projects and position the firm for future growth. The announcement comes with the confirmation that Scott Black has been hired as the company’s new Vice President of Marketing and Business Development.

The addition of Black is the most recent in a series of moves designed to realign InterDesign to support current and anticipated growth. Additional moves include:

  • Jerry Cripps, an InterDesign project manager/architect, was recently promoted to the position of Vice President of Project Management

  • Troy Haffner, InterDesign’s Accounting Manager, has been promoted to Chief Financial Officer

  • Michele McKinney has been hired as an Interior Designer

  • Phillip Wink has been hired as a Project Architect

This realignment is a little different than what we’ve seen in the local market recently,” says InterDesign Founder, Phil Howard. “Often times, realignment is a fancy word for cutting staff, but for us- it means growth. InterDesign has been able to weather the economic storm and come out on the other side stronger. We are experiencing growth in 2013 and see more coming in 2014. As a result, we have been able to execute strategic staffing moves internally that will allow us to sustain that growth.”

Central to the strategy was the addition of Scott Black as VP of Marketing and Business Development.

We knew we wanted Scott to lead our new business efforts,” states Howard. “We believe adding Scott to the InterDesign team will go a long way toward helping us meet our goals.”

Black is excited to be part of the team and anticipates positive results. “We are in an enviable position,” says Black. “InterDesign has long been seen as market leader in several segments that are primed for growth. This means there is significant growth potential for the firm.”

One opportunity cited by Black lies in the healthcare/senior living market—an area where InterDesign excels. “The senior living market is growing at a very rapid pace. According to the Pew Research Center, approximately 10,000 baby boomers a day turn 65, and that trend is expected to continue for at least another 17 years,” explains Black. “With numbers like these, there will be a greater need for new and refurbished continuing care and retirement communities to meet the increased demand. InterDesign has demonstrated design and planning expertise in the CCRC market making us the perfect choice for those projects.”

Previously Black, a graduate from University of Tennessee, served as Vice President of Sebree Architects, Inc., and held positions with Siemens Industry and Recreonics Corporation.

Several recent and significant project wins in the healthcare/senior living, k-12 education and corporate and industrial markets have made execution of the realignment strategy possible. “In recent months, we’ve been able to secure new projects that will bring in over $3.5 million in revenue to the firm,” says Howard. “These projects have certainly helped us move the realignment forward with an eye on the future.”

This is an exciting time at InterDesign,” says Howard who credits the firm’s longevity to an enthusiastic, highly qualified and professional staff of architects, project managers, planners and interior designers. “We are proud of what we have been able to build at InterDesign, as well as what we’ve been able to build for our clients,” finished Howard. “While other firms in the industry have been reducing employees; we are fortunate to be in the exact opposite position. We’ve been able to hire and retain some of the best professionals in the business.”
